We hope these pieces will provide additional useful information and tips to you to help improve your understanding of the advantages of pursuing an online degree and how it may affect your lifestyle and career. There are many who feel called or drawn to the teaching field. The promises of long summers off with kids is certainly one appeal while other potentials like the possibility of changing lives through knowledge and education. Whatever your reason, becoming a teacher is a substantial decision and one that should not be taken lightly. Teaching Is an Art, Not a Science In science, doing things the same way lends the same results. In teaching you can do the same thing from Day 1 to Day 2 and get completely different results. Working with children or adult students requires being on your toes, staying flexible and always thinking ahead. When teaching you're engaged and dynamic. There is very little time that your brain is not plugged in and ready. This isn't true in other sorts of jobs where you can check out for a bit after lunch or wander down to get a cup of coffee in the afternoon. As a teacher you're the artist in charge – shaping your pupils or at least your classroom environment at all times. The summer vacation is a wonderful perk, but by the time that first summer break rolls around you'll know the truth. Teachers work for their vacations – they aren't a simple reward. Teaching is a job that comes home with you both physically and mentally. You'll drag home bags of papers to grade and lay awake at night worrying about little Johnny and his unexplainable bruise you noticed earlier in the day. You start the day at full throttle and you stay there until that final bell rings. Teaching is not easy work primarily because you don't do the same thing every day. Every action you give students has a reaction from you – you must teach, plan, grade, review and re-teach all day, every day. Think of summer vacation as the accumulated coffee breaks and long lunches you'll never have during the school year. If you're going into teaching with the hopes of inspiring a new generation of learners, you're in luck – you will definitely make a difference for at least one student each year. The trouble is, you never know exactly which student you'll be affecting and if you don't strive to make a positive effect on a child, you are increasingly likely to be a negative influence in his life. Most of us can remember a teacher who is profound and wonderful. At the same time, we can think of another teacher who we still shudder to think of. Going into school everyday ready to make a difference is a huge accomplishment. But even when you don't feel like changing the world, your actions and reactions to students will still be creating responses and waves with children. Patience, understanding and control of your emotions will play an important role in keeping your influence positive – even when you're not feeling that way.
